Lifeline Community Center Inc is dedicated to improving the future for Somali, African, immigrant, and minority communities through culturally responsive housing, education, and support programs designed to grow with community needs.
By , every family in our community will have access to stable housing, educational opportunities, and essential support services.
Founded in Minneapolis, MN, Lifeline Community Center Inc. was created to bridge the gap in culturally sensitive services for Somali, African, immigrant, and minority communities. Many Somali families in the Twin Cities face cultural and language barriers that make it difficult to access education, employment, and essential services. Parents with little or no formal schooling often struggle to navigate the education system, leaving youth at risk of falling behind academically. Families without strong English skills frequently rely on community organizations for help with school enrollment, tutoring, and mentoring support.
Among Somali youth, especially those ages 17 and older who received limited or no education in Somalia or refugee camps, above-average dropout and unemployment rates are common. Once in the U.S., they are often placed in classrooms with much younger peers, leading to feelings of isolation and, in some cases, dropping out altogether. This heightens the risk of exposure to gangs, drugs, and other negative influences. To counter these challenges, Lifeline Community Centerpartners with local funders and organizations to provide safe spaces, positive role models, and opportunities that foster independence and resilience.
Housing is another critical area of concern. Large family sizes, limited English proficiency, and lack of familiarity with local systems often lead to overcrowding, eviction, or housing disputes. In addition, seniors in immigrant communities face the challenge of maintaining healthcare coverage while navigating the path to U.S. citizenship. Many rely on Supplemental Security Income (SSI), but failure to gain citizenship within the required timeframe puts these benefits at risk. For elderly refugees, the task of learning a new language, culture, and history can feel overwhelming.
Lifeline Community Center Inc. responds to these realities through culturally responsive, community-driven programs that promote equity, stability, and inclusion. Our mission is to support Somali, African, immigrant, and minority families in building stronger futures by providing resources that address immediate needs and create long-term opportunities.
This foundation was established to meet these challenges head-on—empowering communities today for a stronger tomorrow.
